A 3 piece collection of cocktail dresses inspired by dragon scales and J. R. R. Tolkien’s “Tower of Sauron”. Texture was created by hand sewing 407 “scales” from silk dupioni and chiffon in black and fire tones (red, orange, gold). The exposed side of the scales makes it took as if the dress is only black, but upon further inspection, the scales reveal their firey color. The bodice is composed of black velvet and black goat leather.

 

This piece originally started with a sleeve of scales, however, after advancing my skills I decided to expand and rework the design to have the scales down the front of the skirt instead.

One piece of this collection was selected for my Senior debut at UNT’s annual student fashion show, Art Wear.
